Johnson Woolen Mills

Johnson Woolen Mills has made wool outerwear in Johnson, Vermont under four generations of the same family since 1842. The original mill above the Gihon River wove its own cloth until 1960; the modern facility, a few feet from the original, now hand cuts, sews, pieces, serges and finishes wool clothing on-site.

The manufacturing itself is not in doubt — the Vermont factory and the 180-year lineage are independently documented. What the record cannot settle is the origin of the wool fabric now that the mill no longer weaves. The second mark reflects hand cut-and-sew in Vermont with that fabric question left open rather than assumed either way.
